About Elburton Tutors
Experienced teachers. Personal support.
Meet the husband and wife teaching team behind Elburton Tutors.
Our story
Created for local pupils
Elburton Tutors was created by Robert and Hannah Shaw, a husband and wife teaching team with over 20 years of combined experience in education.
As teachers and parents, we know how important it is for children to feel happy, supported and confident in their learning. We are creating a calm and inviting mini classroom in Elburton where pupils can receive focused one to one or small group support in a welcoming setting.
Our approach is built around clear explanations, learning tailored to the child and strong partnerships between teacher, parent and pupil. We want local children to grow, learn and succeed with support that feels personal and encouraging.

Tutor profile
Hannah Shaw
BEd (Hons) Psychology Degree and PGCE in Primary Education
Hannah has 13 years' experience in primary education, specialising in the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has mainly taught in EYFS and has also taught Years 1 and 2. She has led EYFS and KS1 and has spent the past 10 years as part of a senior leadership team.
She loves helping young children grow in confidence, curiosity and independence. As a mum of two, Hannah has an even deeper appreciation of children's development and the importance of strong relationships between teachers and parents. Seeing education from a parent's perspective has strengthened her belief that strong teacher parent partnerships are key to helping every child thrive.
Our approach
Learning that builds understanding and confidence.
Tutoring should be about more than simply completing a piece of work. It should help children understand what they are learning, develop good learning habits and become more confident.
We adapt our explanations and activities to suit each child.
We want every session to be positive, purposeful and suited to the child’s individual needs.
